Addresses issues involving diversity during the COVID-10 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed many inequities. In the United States, the rate of infection from the disease, the seriousness of the illness, and the death rate are higher for Blacks, Latinos, and Latinas than they are for the population at large. There is no single cause of this, but the type of work people do is clearly a factor. Most engineers have been able to work remotely and avoid exposure to the virus. Those who work in service or manufacturing industries and, therefore, are forced to be in close proximity to many other people are at higher risk. We’ve also seen that, as economies begin to reopen, the reemployment rates for Blacks, Latinos, and Latinas are lagging the general population. Discusses the importance of promoting equal opportunity and diversity.
