Optimisation of coverage path planning in arable farming is challenged by the huge variation in field sizes and shapes occurring around the globe. In addition, the optimisation criteria are highly dependent on the individual farmer's needs. This makes development and comparison of coverage path planning methods difficult. Firstly, a generic coverage path planning method is presented, along with a benchmark dataset comprising 54 standard fields and three operation configurations. Secondly, a set of quantitative measures are proposed, which describes coverage path planning methods' results and performance. This will enable comparisons of coverage path planning methods, while providing better insights to farmers, as the measures are directly related to agronomic concepts.
