Earthquakes and viral epidemics spread are totally different events, but under rare circumstances they could strike at the same time. At midnight on 3 February 2020, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred near Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province in China. This event was unique because it occurred during the outbreak of a new coronavirus known as the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 or SARS‐Cov‐2, which causes coronavirus disease 2019, abbreviated COVID‐19.
