Piezoresistive smart-textile sensor for inventory management record

Implementing smart-textile sensor to connect shelves in a retail shop for inventory management record is always a challenge. This paper deals with the manufacturing model of the piezoresistive textile sensor and their application in store shelves for inventory management record of getting the benefits for the retailers. A pressure-sensitive textile semiconductor and textile electrodes have been developed for manufacturing single column and multi-column shelf sensor, which can detect the object through their weights and send the information wirelessly (via smartphone) to the control room in order to record inventory related information. The sensibility of the piezoresistive sensor has been optimized by a plasma-assisted semi-conductive coating of polyester textile and the electrode materials by the embroidery stitching technique. Finally, the textile sensor has been embedded into the retail shelve and monitor the inventory-related data such as the presence and absence of the products, out of the stock situation, the number of products, placement and displacement time etc.
