A modified unscented transformation method for uncertainty propagation in neutron induced cross section measurement

Abstract This paper investigates the application of the modified unscented transformation (MUT) method for uncertainty propagation in neutron induced cross section measurement in Nuclear Science. The method is the improvement on unscented transformation (UT) technique by incorporating more parameters (not random) to increase the number of sigma points. We examined the application of MUT method for covariance analysis of cross section measurement in comparison to the first order sensitivity analysis method and Monte Carlo methods. The MUT method is simple to use and easier to implement in comparison to the sandwich formula. The Monte Carlo simulations had been carried out to illustrate the good performance of the MUT method in covariance analysis in neutron activation cross section measurement.
