Evaluation of thermal properties of commercial fuels at high pressure and temperature through developed computer codes

In the present work, thermal properties of hydrocarbon fuels including commercial fuels like diesel fuel (DF2), jet propulsion fuel JP5 and automotive gasoline (AG) are evaluated at temperatures and pressures prevailing in internal combustion engines and gas turbines. Properties calculated include density, viscosity, thermal conductivity, specific heat and mass diffusivity. A detailed methodology is evolved by developing subroutines (computer codes) for determining fuel properties at sub and supercritical conditions (pressure range: 1 bar–100 bar; temperature range: 300 K–1000 K). It is observed that estimated properties are sensitive to reduced pressure and temperature of the given fuel. Polynomial forms for determining these properties as a function of temperature and pressure for each fuel are also developed which are quite accurate and simple to use.
