Dr Joy Pate is a Professor of Animal Sciences, the C. Lee Rumberger and Family Chair in Agricultural Sciences, and the Director of the Center for Reproductive Biology and Health at Penn State University. She received the BS degree in animal science from the University of Delaware and the PhD in animal sciences, with emphasis on reproductive biology, from the University of New Hampshire in the laboratory of Dr William Condon. She then became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dairy Sciences at the Ohio State University. There she rose through the ranks to become Associate Chair and Professor in the Department of Animal Sciences. In 2009, Dr Pate moved to the Department of Animal Sciences at Penn State University. Dr Pate’s laboratory investigates the mechanisms regulating corpus luteum function using the cow as a model. Her research questions focus on the role of immune cells in the ovary, cholesterol metabolism in reproductive endocrine tissues, production and action of prostaglandins in the ovary, and microRNA expression and function in the corpus luteum. She has published over 100 manuscripts in top tier reproductive biology journals including many in Biology of Reproduction [1–5]. Dr Pate has given numerous scientific lectures at international and national scientific meetings and has served on many NIH and USDA grant review panels. Dr Pate has also mentored numerous undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows in her lab, many of whom have gone on to successful careers of their own.
