The period of the damped non-linear pendulum

The effects of various types of damping on the period of the nonlinear pendulum are compared with experiment for oscillations of amplitude up to ~180 degrees. The factors affecting a comparison of experimental results obtainable with modern MEMs Gyro/accelerometers with theory, namely a precise knowledge of the pendulum fundamental frequency , the instrument calibration, and the definition of the amplitude of the damped oscillation are presented together with the damping theory.
