Synthesis of SnO2 loaded on corn cob activated carbon for enhancing the photodegradation of methylene blue under sunlight irradiation

In this work, SnO2 loaded with a minor amount of corn cob activated carbon (CCAC) was synthesized through a simple chemical precipitation method. The product materials were characterized by XRD, XPS, UV-DRS, PL, FTIR, FE-SEM with EDAX, TEM, BET, EIS analysis and its photocatalytic activity for methylene blue (MB) degradation under sunlight irradiation was investigated. XRD pattern showed that the average crystalline size is reducing (17.25 nm) upon loading CCAC compared to the SnO2. The band gap is reduced (3.52 eV) upon loading on CCAC than the SnO2. Furthermore, lower PL emission intensity of the SnO2/CCAC enhanced separation of the photogenerated charge carriers. It increased surface area and pore volume is due to the adding CCAC is 293.12 m2/g and 0.34 cm3/g are confirmed by BET analysis. Therefore, SnO2/CCAC composite of the maximum removal efficiency (90.86 %) of MB dye shows that the improve SnO2 (photocatalysis) and CCAC (adsorption) under sunlight irradiation within 120 min. Further, it also possible mechanism and pseudo-first-order model is used to analyze the kinetics studies.
