Land use change analysis of Daishan Island using multi-temporal remote sensing imagery

The objective of this paper is to analyze land use change on Daishan Island using a multi-temporal remote sensing imagery. Four Landsat optical remote sensing images were collected from 1987, 1996, 2007, and 2016, and eight land cover types were recognized and extracted using the collected time series imagery. In addition, a land use-type transfer matrix was used for temporal analysis of land use conditions. The experimental results reveal that the total area of Daishan Island increased slightly in the past 30 years, during which time the shipbuilding industry rapidly grew and the salt mining industry gradually shrank. The industry changed greatly but there was no large-scale land reclamation. Moreover, forested area increased, which was conducive to the sustainable development of Daishan Island.
