In the November 2012 issue of SLEEP, we published a report on a combined field and laboratory study investigating the impact of night shift work on the operational performance of police officers. We compared performance after the last five consecutive night shifts with the performance after three consecutive days off duty. We used high-fidelity driving simulators to test driving performance, which was quantified in terms of lane deviation (standard deviation of lateral lane position). Due to an error in the software used to calculate lane deviation, the values we plotted in a graph in Figure 1 (panel A) are too small by a factor √2. The corrected graph is provided below. The statistical analyses and inferences are not affected. The authors thank Dr. Dario Salvucci for pointing out the miscalculation, and they regret the error.
