Nonlinear kinetics of transition between transport flow modes

The kinetics of transition between free and jammed traffic flow is studied. The types of stability of stationary states with different functioning modes are examined. The mutually coordinated behavior of the deviations of headway and velocity from their optimal values and acceleration/braking time of cars is presented. The three-dimensional phase portraits of the kinetics of these nonequilibrium parameters are built. It is shown that increase of the characteristic acceleration/deceleration time necessary to achieve the characteristic speed leads to jamming. Critical conditions for characteristic acceleration/braking time and ratios of relaxation times of basic parameters are found which have allowed to construct the stability diagrams of stationary states.
