This paper presents effect of reflection-induced optical feedback on the post-detection signal power in an intensity modulation-direct detection (IM-DD) fiber optic transreceiver. The detected signal power reduction depends on the reflectivity of the external reflector as well as on the reflectivity of the laser cavity output facet. In the present dual reflector system, any increase in FPLD end facet reflectance leads to a less reduction in detected signal power due to optical feedback. Also, an increase in reflectivity of the external reflectors results in further reduction of detected signal power due to optical feedback. The experimental observation is in agreement with the detailed theory developed.
