Abstract

This work deals with the development of nonwoven fabrics using spunlace technology. The work done by us is on hydroentanglement process of polyester, viscose and their blends including preparation process and characterization of the fabric. The material parameters such as type of fiber, blend ratio and process parameters like jet pressure were studied in this research. The performance characteristics of thus developed nonwoven fabric have been reported in terms of air permeability, mass per unit area, thickness, liquid absorbency time, liquid absorptive capacity and tensile strength. An expression for predicting the fabric properties as a function of the aforesaid process parameters has been developed. It is interesting to note that the output results predicted from the software showed a good correlation between predicted results and actual experimental results. There is decrease of liquid absorption capacity was found with increase in jet pressure whereas increase in jet pressure increases fabric breaking load.
