As the practice of minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) has evolved and expanded in our field, it is clear that MISS techniques cannot be implemented with a “one size fits all” mentality. With this in mind, studies that can prospectively identify patients who may benefit most from MISS approaches offer considerable value to spine surgeons. In the attached article,1 the authors sought to identify demographic, clinical, and technical factors associated with superior outcomes following minimally invasive 1 or 2 level decompression and/or fusion for grade I degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis using a prospective, multicenter database. The authors identified fusion operations, active employment status, advanced education, and increased age as factors associated with superior patient reported outcomes at 24 mo postoperatively in this patient population.
