Use of plant-defense hormones against pathogen-diseases of postharvest fresh produce

Abstract The losses caused by pathogens on fresh products in postharvest can reach up to 50% of the harvest, which is why efficient strategies are required to increase the life of these products and reduce damage from diseases. In this sense, the use of plant-defense hormones represents an option that is respectful of health and the environment, as well as being effective, not only in reducing the incidence of diseases, but also in increasing the life of these fresh products. This work is an exhaustive compilation of the most recent studies carried out in the post-harvest biocontrol of pathogens through the exogenous application of the defense hormones jasmonic acid and salicylic acid in all the groups of perishable-plant products, pointing out the mechanisms involved.
