This special issue is arranged based on the International Conference on Intelligent Manufacturing and Internet of Things in 2018 (IMIOT2018) which brought together the latest scientific and engineering developments in manufacturing for the future. Four extended papers from the conference and one direct submission were selected after rigorous review and thorough revision to showcase the recent advances in the manufacture sector. With the development of technology, the manufacturing sector is moving towards innovation, complexity and infrastructure where design and analysis are playing an important factor and the additive manufacture is giving speed and accuracy. This raises the prospect of manufacturing for the future with innovation, automation, robotics and new technologies. This special issue is dedicated to manufacturing for the future and covers a scope from dynamics in manufacturing to evaluation and analysis, from additive manufacturing to materials in drilling and to planning for CNC machine tools. The selected papers reflect the technology development in manufacturing and present a horizon of new technologies used in the manufacturing sector. The authors are collaborating internationally and showing the synergy in manufacturing for the future that requires a great integration of multi-disciplines and cooperation. We hope these selected papers can raise great interest in manufacturing for the future and attract more papers in our Journal to promote innovation and manufacturing in mechanical engineering and in the society.
