How Environmental Performance Influence Client Satisfaction on Projects that Adopt Green Construction Practices: The Role of Economic Performance and Client Types

This paper introduces and adopts a different perspective in examining the relationship between environmental performance and client satisfaction through economic performance and investigates how different client types impacts this relationship. Data was collected from a survey conducted on class A contractors in Nigeria, and the partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) technique was used to analyze the hypothesized relationships. The findings of this study show that environmental performance has a positive significant effect on client satisfaction, type of client moderates the relationship between environmental performance and client satisfaction with public clients having the greatest effect, and the relationship between environmental performance and client satisfaction is partially mediated by economic performance. The findings of the study provide far reaching contributions to green construction practice and to existing theories. The findings are significant to contractors as it enables them to plan their projects strategically giving due consideration to the type of clients.
