1 INTRODUCTION

Biometrical Journal (BIMJ) publishes papers on statistical methods and their applications in life sciences including medicine, environmental sciences, and agriculture. Methodological developments should be motivated by an interesting and relevant problem from these areas. Ideally, the manuscript should include a description of the problem and a section detailing the application of the new methodology to the problem. Case studies, review articles, and letters to the editors are also welcome. Biometrical Journal is edited in cooperation with the German (http://www.biometrische‐gesellschaft.de/) and the Austro‐Swiss (https://www.ibs‐roes.org/) Regions of the International Biometric Society (IBS, see also http://www.biometricsociety.org/). Starting with January 2020, the Journal is published also in cooperation with the Italian region of the IBS (https://ibs‐italy.org/) and the current coeditors will leave the place to the new editors, Arne Bathke (Salzburg) and Matthias Schmid (Bonn). Arne and Matthias will handle all the new submissions; we wish them all the best for this new role, and to the Journal to continue its current path of growth. We need to say something here about the people who collaborated with us. First, we would like to thank once again Danielle Flemming, our Wiley contact of the Journal, and Monika Kortenjann who is the responsible for the Editorial Office of BIMJ. Without both of them, BIMJ would have never been the lovely place it is. We also wish to thank our Reproducible Research Editor, Dr. Fabian Scheipl, who has always worked with great skill, organization, and dedication to this increasingly important issue. To him and his groupmates Fabian Raters (Göttingen, Germany), Annika Hoyer (Düsseldorf, Germany) we express our sincerest gratitude. Last, but not least, we deeply thank our Coordinating Editor, Antonello Maruotti (LUMSA, Rome) who has always given us his full support during these wonderful 5 years we spent working together. It was an honor and a pleasure to serve with all of you for the Journal. To the new Coordinating Editor Georg Zimmerman (Salzburg) and the new Reproducible Research Editor Michel Lang (Dortmund), who join the team, our best wishes for a fruitful collaboration.

对于他和他的队友Fabian Ratingrs(德国哥廷根),Annika Hoyer(德国杜塞尔多夫)我们表示最诚挚的谢意。
