Green ion-exchange bisfuranic polyamides by polycondensation with bio-based diamines

A monomer fully based on renewable materials was prepared from methyl 2-furoate and levulinic acid by condensation reaction under acidic conditions. The monomer is used for the synthesis of ion-exchange polyamides based on a new family of bisfuranic diesters. Polyamides prepared using typical melt polycondensation have provided a relatively simple and reliable way of preparing linear furanic polycondensates bearing regular structures with high yield. The ion-exchange polyamides were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The thermal behavior of the polymers was studied by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. The ion-exchange capacity was determined by direct titration of the dry polymer.
