Professor Paul Gemperline has been Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Chemometrics since Volume 21, January 2007. During his 10-year editorship, Paul has been responsible for 859 articles, 109 regular issues, and 26 special issues. Combined, this wealth of material has thus far received a remarkable 8,186 citations (Clarivate Analytics, Web of Science, 16 July 2018) and the journal has influenced a huge breadth of subject areas from food chemistry, hazardous materials, industrial engineering, petroleum technology, and neuroscience to name just a few (Figure 1) During Paul's editorship, the journal has certainly flourished and made huge roads into bridging the knowledge gap between the chemometricians and analytical chemists through exciting and innovative articles such as Cyril Ruckebusch's masterfully commissioned Special Features and the introduction of Richard Brereton's columns, two elements that have become the most popular content types in the journal today. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Paul over these past 10 years. I have fond memories discussing films and the etymology of the noun Gemperline among, of course, journal strategic deliberations in our impromptu Skype coffee mornings. I will miss our camaraderie and creative thinking on journal strategy immensely.
