Ammonia is one of the most produced chemicals in the world. However, the industrial Haber–Bosch progress is highly energy‐consumptive with large amounts of CO2 emission. The electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR), especially studies on noble‐metal‐free catalysts, has attracted incfeasing attention. In this Minireview, the reported noble‐metal‐free catalysts for NRR are summarized and the strategies for enhancing NRR catalytic activity and Faradaic efficiency discussed. Moreover, existing problems and future developments are put forward. The cover image shows the cycle process of N, the types of noble‐metal‐free NRR catalysts, as well as the synthesis strategies.
