Front Cover. In clinical settings, essential oils are the most common natural product being recommended for respiratory related infections. Furthermore, essential oil blends are believed to work synergistically to treat and manage symptoms associated with the respiratory tract. A review of the literature identified a number of essential oils that held important therapeutic applications for respiratory tract infections. These oils were then critically evaluated with the available published literature to determine the validity as antimicrobial agents. Other biological aspects strongly linked to the therapeutic use of essential oils for respiratory infections included anti‐oxidant activity, anti‐inflammatory and antihistamine activity, with selected oils demonstrating little or moderately toxic effects. Recommendations were made for future research strategies which are detailed and reported by Leigh and van Vuuren in their review at 10.1002/cbdv.202000062.
