Formation of ultrafine structure of Armco iron under the influence of laser pulse treatment

Influence of laser pulse treatment on structural state and strength characteristics of subsurface layer in Armco iron has been investigated. The yield stress of this layer was estimated from structural characteristics observed experimentally. The yield stress was shown to depend on the degree of ultra-fine and nanoscale grain refinement and the density of dislocations. The correlation between the degree of hardening and dislocation density in the laser impact zone was established.
