Technological Obsolescence Management of Electrical Equipment and Automation Systems

Technological obsolescence and the lifecycle management of electrical equipment and automation systems are of fundamental importance to guarantee the operational continuity of power and industrial plants. This article presents a methodology to manage technological obsolescence and establishes requirements to classify equipment and systems into obsolescence grades. Moreover, it presents criteria to determine the impacts of each failure in production losses. Finally, it shows a prioritized ranking of the mitigation actions to minimize and even eliminate the risk of production losses. As a result, there is an increase in plant reliability and downtime avoidance as well as a rational budget destination.
