Activity and selectivity of noble metal decorated nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes supported on zeolite spheres in catalytic hydrogenation of benzophenone

Abstract

Catalytic activity of different noble metal containing, N-BCNT-zeolite supported catalysts have been tested for benzophenone hydrogenation. It has been found that the palladium containing support-on-support catalyst is suitable for hydrogenation of benzophenone. The catalyst showed different behavior depending on the solvent. Both conversion and selectivity were affected by the solvent. This effect was most pronounced regarding the selectivity of palladium, which proved to be the most effective in tetrahydrofuran, reaching 85% selectivity toward benzhydrol with almost full conversion of benzophenone.
