How is a micelle formed from amphiphilic polymers in a dialysis process: Insight from mesoscopic studies

Self-assembly of amphiphilic polymers into micelles in dialysis process is dynamic, and the phase transition process is therefore very challenging to observe experimentally. In this study, we built a dynamic modeling by applying dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulations to explore the entire micelle formation process during the dynamic. The self-assembled aggregates undergo four stages in the process of dialysis: (i) Dispersed stage, (ii) Pre-micellar stage, (iii) Over-micellar stage. (iv) The final micellar stage. The study thus provides great advantages in simulating the processing dynamics of drug delivery systems, which would further expand the application scope of DPD simulations.
