Investigation of complexation of 4-(2-thiazolylazo)catechol with CuII, CoII, NiII, and ZnII ions in aqueous solutions as a method for the study of their interaction with natural sulfides

In order to study the mechanism of interaction of 4-(2-thiazolylazo)catechol with natural sulfides specifically with sulfides of various metals, the complexation of this azo compound with copper(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II), and zinc(II) ions in aqueous solutions was investigated. The reagent forms positively charged complexes with metal ions in the range of pH = 5.8—11.1. Their composition and structure, range of existence and stability constants were determined. An anionic complex with copper(II) formed at pH = 12.3—13.2. The structure of surface complex compounds formed on metal sulfides was proposed.
