DC Side Harmonic Measurement of ±500kV Converter Station

Abstract There are various nonlinear components in the HVDC transmission system to cause harmonic generation and the converter station is the main harmonic source of the HVDC transmission system. Harmonics have varying degrees of impact and hazards on various electrical equipment, power lines and communication systems. Therefore, a reasonable analysis of the harmonic characteristics of the converter station is of great significance for the research and development of HVDC transmission technology. In this paper, the ±500kV converter station in Yunnan is taken as the research object. The Fourier analysis method is used to analyze the DC side harmonics of the converter station. And the Narda electric field measuring instrument is used for harmonic measurement. Proposing the suppression method of each harmonic is based on the DC side harmonic measurement results. 12/24/36 three-tuned filter are used to filter out characteristic harmonics. It has the advantages of small installation capacity and low fundamental wave loss while ensuring the filtering effect. And using the single-tuned filter to filter 2/3/6/11 harmonic orders unless the characteristic harmonics which structure is simple.
