BIM is now a routine approach to infrastructure development especially for major projects committed to maintaining critical path activity and providing cost effective and efficient project development. In many technologically advanced areas of endeavour, integration of related knowledge and systems can provide superior outcomes. In this respect, the publication of our Special Feature on the Nexus of BIM and GIS: integrating building and geospatial data is both timely and appropriate. Our Guest Editors (Mohsen Kalantari from University of Melbourne and Michael Olsen from Oregon State University) have attracted a range of quality papers addressing significant issues concerning this important topic. Additional research papers in this issue include a contribution by Sadahiro and Liu that proposes a novel methods for comparing and classifying point patterns that explicitly consider spatial scale. Three functions are proposed, each of which represent the similarity between point patterns with a single measure introduced to summarize the overall similarity between patterns. In their paper titled A tensor-based interpolation method for sparse spatio-temporal field data, Li, Yang, Yu, Hu and Yuan propose a tensor-based interpolation method for spatiotemporal field data. The observed data are organized as a sparse tensor, which is then represented as the decomposition of a canonical polyadic model. Simulation experiments suggest their method can interpolate spatio-temporal data with various levels of sparseness, even when up to 90% of the data are missing. Ting Wang, Lu Wang and Zhi-Zhong Ning looked at the spatial pattern of tourist attractions and its influencing factors based on the location of 9820 tourist attractions in China. Nearest-neighbour distance method, multi-distance clustering and kernel density analysis were used to study the distribution pattern of scenic spots and their relationship with natural and socio-economic factors. Haider, Bhatti and Asim investigate the precise measurement of continuously operating reference station (CORS) site deviation due to seismic activities. They also examine the performance analysis of horizontal time-dependent positioning software. In June 2014 an earthquake of magnitude 7.9 hit the Aleutian Islands which deviated the Adak AB21 CORS site from its assigned NAD_83 (EPOCH 2010) position coordinates. This paper provides a performance analysis of the AB21 CORS site and ADK IU accelerometer for the precise measurement of the June 2014 earthquake and the North American tectonic plate movement.
