Cover Photograph: Binding signals of odorants detected in the olfactory epitherium (OE) are transmitted to the olfactory bulb (OB) and converted to a topographic map of activated glomeruli. Odor information is then conveyed by projection neurons to the olfactory cortex (OC) for making decisions of the odor quality to mediate behavioral outputs. Decisions are made via two distinct neural circuits; one is innate and the other is learned pathway. See Sakano, pp 199–213.
