The Use of Roller-Cooling Method for Implementing Through Technology in Casting and Rolling for High-Quality Wide-Strip Steel Manufacture

This article discusses the solution to the urgent problem of increasing productivity and reducing the energy consumption of broad strip hot rolling mills (BSHRMs) while improving the quality of rolled products. The technological capabilities of spray cooling and the use of cooling rollers whose cavities are filled with aluminum or copper balls are analyzed. The roller-cooling method is shown to have a higher prospect of solving the formulated problem, because it features good observability of the operational state of equipment, is environmental friendly, allows to improve the quality of rolled products, reduces the need for expensive reagents for cleaning the cooler, reduces energy costs by at least 50%, and allows the use of heat released by hot billets.
