Adsorption behaviour of isosaccharinic acid onto cementitious materials

Abstract The adsorption of isosaccharinic acid (ISA) onto different cementitious materials, Hardened Cement Paste (HCP) at different degradation states and pure cement hydrates (C–S–H), has been investigated in this work. Our results indicate that HCP at degradation state II has the highest ISA adsorption capacity compared with HCP in both fresh (state I) and carbonated state. The adsorption data for ISA on HCP and C–S–H suggest that C–S–H adsorption can be fairly well explained assuming a generic one-site Langmuir isotherm; while on HCP, a more complex material mineralogically, this type of model cannot be used to describe the sorption data.
