ABSTRACT Hydrachnidiae are the most abundant and diverse groups of benthic arthropods. Seven superfamilies are included in the subcohort Hydrachnidiae, six of which have been reported from China. In our recent collection, we found several specimens of Hydrovolzia. The specimens were identified as Hydrovolzia cancellata Walter, 1906 using morphological characteristics. DNA barcodes were generated and represent the first reported for this species. Interspecific divergence between H. cancellata and H. placophora was analysed based on DNA barcodes. The result showed that the two species could be distinguished easily by DNA barcodes. The presence of H. cancellata in China means that seven superfamilies are officially reported in the country.
