A Two-Stage Non-Parametric Software Reliability Model

Abstract The large literature on software reliability assessment and prediction is essentially concerned with parametric models. During the last decade non-parametric models have been developed. This paper presents a new non-parametric model which is based on the idea of separation of concern between the long term trend in reliability growth and the local behaviour The trend is captured using moving averages while the local behaviour is estimated using a kernel estimator. The predictions obtained from the new model are compared with predictions that come from earlier models on some real data sets. A simulation study is also conducted.
