The articles in this special section focus on microwave filters. This is the second in a series devoted to this topic. The first part, published in the March 2020 issue, included five articles addressing a variety of interesting topics in the microwave filter field, such as design methods based on complementary analytical synthesis and optimization philosophies, multifunctional filtering components in 3D technologies, and advanced fabrication solutions for 3D filters and multiplexers using mechanical actuation. In this second part, four additional articles are presented that cover some of these topics in more detail. Among the topics covered in this issue are 3D manufacturing for satellite communication filters as well as others that have recently gained attention, such as substrate-integrated cavity technologies for static and frequency reconfigurable filtering devices and power-dependent autonomously tunable filters and filter banks for receiver interference protection.
