The 10th International Symposium on Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (ISHVAC 2017) was held in Jinan, China from October 19 to 22, 2017. This conference was organized by Shandong Jianzhu University, and co-organized by Tsinghua University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The University of Maryland, The University of Sydney, and UiT The Arctic University of Norway. Hundreds of international scholars, researchers and engineers got together to discuss the state-of-the-art achievements of HVAC technologies, and therefore the conference provided an opportunity for international exchange and cooperation. The organizing committee received nearly 700 papers from all over the world, and the contents of articles reflect the progress of the HVAC field. Both identification and screening were conducted for the articles to determine the ones with high quality. In the process of selection, the research achievements of some high-level papers drew the attentions of the organizing committee. Heat Transfer Engineering journal is an unparalleled resource for key advances in the field of heat transfer, and publishes analytical, numerical, and experimental articles of lasting interest in the general area of heat-mass transfer and the related fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. According to the characteristics of the journal, a total number of 11 high-level papers which formed a special issue were recommended, and the authors of the 11 papers made substantial revisions based on the versions that they had submitted to ISHVAC 2017. This special issue is significant since it shows the research frontiers that are involved in the knowledge frame of HVAC field, and the topics of the 11 papers are related to heat and mass transfer. The 11 papers included in this special issue were edited by Professor Afshin Ghajar, Editor-in-Chief of Heat Transfer Engineering. The Guest Editors would like to thank the authors of the papers in this special issue and the reviewers. Special thanks are extended to Professor Afshin Ghajar, Editor-in-Chief of Heat Transfer Engineering, who has whole-heartedly supported this conference and the Special Issue. His tireless efforts in assuring high-quality publications are sincerely appreciated.
