Electrochemical preparation of poly 3-amino-5-hydroxypyrazole on copper and its corrosion protection efficiency

Electrochemical synthesis of poly 3-amino-5-hydroxypyrazole (PAHP) on copper electrode surface was carried out by cyclic voltammetry technique in 0.03 M 3-amino-5-hydroxypyrazole solution containing 0.3 M oxalic acid. The formation of dark brown PAHP on copper surface was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, FTIR and scanning electron microscopy techniques. The corrosion characteristics of copper/PAHP electrode were evaluated by electrochemical methods and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in 3.5% NaCl solution. The obtained results indicated that PAHP thin film coating was an excellent inhibitor and controlled copper corrosion against corrosive agents in 3.5% NaCl solution.
