The effect of the equal‐channel angular pressing (ECAP) process on the pitting corrosion behavior of ultrafine‐grained aluminum was evaluated based on statistical analysis. The microstructural evolution, mechanical properties, and corrosion behavior were investigated. ECAP breakdowns/redistributes intermetallic particles, which contributes to a decrease in the local chemical heterogeneity. Higher average pitting potential (Epit) values were observed after processing, but this improvement was neither significant nor sequential with each ECAP pass. Finally, the statistical analysis of the data and their dispersion did not lead to the conclusion that ECAP improves the corrosion resistance of aluminum, in view of the widely varying Epit values observed.
