We open this issue with a paper from the Arab world. In ‘Farmers’ perception of the quality of mobile-based extension services in Egypt: A comparison between public and private provision’, Hazem S. Kassem, of King Saud University and Mansoura University, Rasha M. Shabana, of the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture, Yomna A. Ghoneim, of Mansoura University, and Bader M. Alotaibi, of King Saud University, compare the quality of agricultural extension messages as between public and private providers. The findings revealed a lack of access to messages by the farmers and significant differences between the perceptions of farmers of quality attributes in both types of service. The results provide practical implications to support mobile-based extension services to enable sharing information and link farmers with other actors in the agricultural value chain.
