The moderating role of allergy immunotherapy in asthma progression: Results of a population‐based cohort study

Schmitt, J et al. Allergy. 2019; 75: 596–602.

https://doi.org/10.1111/all.14020

The effect of allergy immunotherapy (AIT) on the development of asthma from mild to more severe was studied in this population‐based cohort study in Germany. Over 1.7 million asthmatics were included, 10% of whom received AIT. AIT was associated with a significant decrease in the probability of asthma severity worsening, particularly from GINA (global initiative for asthma) treatment step 1–3 (hazard ratio 0.87, 95% CI 0.8–0.95).
