Mojgan Daneshmand

In this “Women in Engineering” column, we are reprinting a contribution by Prof. Mojgan Daneshmand, University of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada), to honor her memory [S1]. Prof. Daneshmand, her husband, Prof. Pedram Mousavi, and their daughters, Daria and Dorina, were among the 167 passengers and crew members who lost their lives when the Ukrainian International Airlines Flight 752 crashed shortly after takeoff from Tehran, Iran, on 8 January 2020. Prof. Daneshmand was an outstanding electrical-engineering instructor and the Canada Research Chair on radio-frequency sensing and communication. During her career, she received several prestigious international awards, in particular, the 2016 IEEE Antenna and Propagation Society Lot Shafai Distinguished Mid-Career Award, which recognized her contribution to the field of microwave communication and sensing technologies and her accreditation as a role model for women in engineering.
