Zeolites in the synthesis of quinolines by the Skraup reaction

A novel heterogeneous catalytic method for the synthesis of quinoline ( 1) and a mixture of 2- and 4-methylquinolines ( 2) by Skraup reaction in the presence of H-Y, H-MOR, H-Beta, H-ZSM-5 zeolite catalysts has been proposed. H-Beta and H-ZSM-5 zeolite catalysts demonstrated the highest activity, selectivity and stability: the total selectivity to 1 and 2 was up to 74% with a dominance of quinoline in the fraction, the conversion of aniline was 88–100%.
