Design and operation of a pilot plant for syngas to low-aromatic gasoline via DME

Abstract Pilot tests of a syngas-to-gasoline (STG) technology for the synthesis of liquid hydrocarbons through oxygenates (methanol and dimethyl ether (DME)) for different process flow diagrams were carried out were carried out. The resulting product was light synthetic oil with a low concentration of aromatic compounds (8–16 wt %). The results of the pilot run were analyzed and compared with the results of tests performed on a small micropilot unit. It was shown, that in the absence of a kinetic description of the reaction, the space time and dimensionless criteria for heat and mass transfer modeling in a granular catalyst bed can be used as reference parameters. It was found that the scale-up had no effect on the selectivity for product formation.
