Magnetic and magnetocaloric proprieties of Fe68+Cr12-Si8B12 ribbons

Abstract The objective of this study is to investigate the magnetocaloric effect in Fe68+xCr12−xSi8B12 (x = 0, 4 and 10) ribbons prepared by melt spinning technique. X-ray diffraction and Mossbauer spectrometry show that the ribbons are amorphous and the average hyperfine field is very affected by chromium concentration. The temperature dependence of the magnetic entropy variation was calculated from the magnetization data. It was found that the Curie temperature of the sample increases with decreasing Cr content. The Maximum of magnetic entropy change ( - Δ S m max ) of μ0H = 2 T is about 1.06, 1.37 and 2.26 J.kg−1. K−1 for x = 0, 4 and 10, respectively. Arrott plots are investigated to conclude the nature of the magnetic transition, which are second-order ferromagnetic to paramagnetic phase transition near the Curie temperature. Theoretical investigation of the magnetization and the magnetocaloric effect are reported of which the maximum value of magnetocaloric change ( - Δ S m max ) and the relative cooling power (RCP) parameters are determined.
