Daniel Porte Jr. was born in New York City in 1931, and with his father being a clinical cardiologist, medicine was part of his life from very early on. After completing his undergraduate studies at Brown University, he commenced his migration west by first attending medical school at the University of Chicago, where he graduated with honors in 1957.
