Net section resistance in bolted cold-formed steel angles under tension

Abstract Net section resistance in bolted cold-formed steel angles of members under tension is analyzed in this work. The efficiency reduction due to shear lag and eccentricity effects in bolted connections is studied using finite element models implemented in ABAQUS software. The nonlinearities of the steel material and the contact between elements are considered in the numerical models, and their results are in good agreement with experimental tests. A parametric study is conducted in this work using Finite Element (FE) analyses. A large number of experimental tests reported in the literature is also summarized in this work. A new expression of easy application for net section reduction coefficient is found, which allows improving the prediction of the nominal resistance of the net section.
