Two New Crystalline Nanoscale In(III)-Coordination Polymers: Crystal Structures and Glioma Cell Growth Inhibition

The hydrothermal reactions of In(NO3)3·2H2O with 5-fluoroisophthalic acid or 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid produce two new In(III)-based coordination polymers [H2NMe2]+[In{(O2C)2FC6H3}2](H2O)4 (1) and [In3{(O2C)3C6H3}2(H2O)10]3+[(NO3)3]3− (H2O)2 (2). A green hand-grinding technology was used to decrease the particle sizes of 1 and 2 to generate nanoscale samples (nano 1 and nano 2). Furthermore, the inhibitory activity of nano 12 against a series of cancer cells was evaluated with Cell Counting Kit-8 assays. Results indicated that the nanos showed the highest selectivity on KNS-81 cells. In particular, nano 1 had the IC50 value of 1.64 ± 0.06 mΜ. RT-PCR was performed to detect the relative expression levels of p53, nf-κb, and tnf-α after treatment. Nano 1 could significantly increase the expression levels of p53, nf-κb, and tnf-α apoptotic genes and exert antitumor activity. Compared with nano 2, nano 1 has the potential to be developed into an anticancer drug that targets human gliomas.
