Black phosphorus modified soluble microneedle patch for painless, effective and accurate body slimming

Compared with painful and difficult overall weight-loss, a surgery-free method was developed to achieve local accurate body slimming. A layer of black phosphorus was modified on the back of the rosiglitazone (Rosi)-loaded soluble microneedle patch. Under near-infrared (NIR) irradiation, Rosi could be delivered to the target adipose tissues efficiently and painlessly, thus achieving accurate body slimming. Based on the experiments in a mouse model with high-fat-induced obesity, after one month, the mice lost about 8% of their body weight while their waist circumference (target region) dropped about 21%. In addition, an interesting phenomenon of adipose tissue dynamic compensation was discovered and discussed for the first time.
