Selectively sensing and dye adsorption properties of one Zn(II) architecture based on a rigid biphenyltetracarboxylate ligand

The rigid 3,3′,5,5′-biphenyltetracarboxylate (H4bptc) were chosed to react with Zn(NO3)2·6H2O under solvothermal conditions, and one new compound, {[Zn2(bptc)(DMF)2(H2O)] . DMF . H2O}n (1), was achieved and structurally characterized. The 3D framework of 1 has channels with a diameter of ∼10.20 Å along the c axis, where DMF molecules were filled. 1 consists of the same amount of square-planar and tetrahedral nodes, and thus forms a network with a known pts topology. Luminescence experiment results indicated that MOF 1 possesses good sensitivity, selectivity, stability, and reusability for detecting Fe3+, Zr4+ and rare earth ions. In addition, the selective adsorption for methylene blue (the saturated adsorption capacity was caculated as 97 mg/g) and the possible process were studied in details.
